a brief description |
||
In a series of experiments
, students experiment the "simple machines" : How do I lift that very heavy bag? By using levers, pulleys, an incline plane or an inflatable inner tube they realize that a gain in "force" is possible , making the task possible, but at the cost of a longer displacement (a weaker effort on a longer distance). This is the basis of the concept of conservation of energy . In a second set of experiments, they practice with a toy arrow launcher to measure the distance flown for a given angle, and establish a graphic. Using this empirical evidence, they work out at which angle they must aim to reach a given target. |
